Rajasthan, literally "Land of Kings", is located in northwestern India, bordering on Pakistan. The opulence of its historical heritage is preserved in the many palaces of the local maharajahs. A mosaic of people and places, it is perhaps above all a land of color: Udaipur - the white city, Jaisalmer - the golden city, Jodhpur - the blue city, and finally its capital, Jaipur - the pink city.
The insight into Rajasthan's music and dance was provided by Sajida Ben-Tzur, an Indian classical and Rajasthani folk dancer who was raised within Sufi community of Ajmer. We met with highly skilled musicians, dancers and puppeteers in cities and villages. We heard and watched them perform, often while seated on the floor in the courtyards of their houses or tents, on thier rooftops, or on the sand dunes in the desert.
